One more tip from our electrician regarding the satellite system. If at all possible, do not point the dish at the roof. The breakthrough stone for the mast is usually made of plastic, and regular movement of the dish causes it to leak. Accessibility is poor if something corrodes, floods, or gets twisted by a storm. Who wants to climb onto the roof anyway? If possible, always place the dish on the carport or garage. Fixed, easily accessible, and simple to install. That's what he says. That's what he did for us. More the exception than the rule... nowadays every reputable roof tile manufacturer offers roof breakthrough stones in all shapes and colors...

These are then more likely the Elis etc. who supply the pseudo tile made of plastic... it's simply cheaper and brings more margin...

Network sockets have already been included in the planning. My current calculation is as follows: If I get 3Play from Unitymedia for €35, which also includes the private HD+ channels, or if I get a DSL connection with a flat rate for calls (which isn't really available for less than €30) but then also have to buy a Sat HD+ card for €5, the costs balance out. However, for that I have to buy a satellite system, which will surely cost more than the €400 Unitymedia connection. In addition, we have a semi-detached house planned with 2 full floors and an attic. There is no roof window on the roof, only dormers, so I see a bit of a problem with a satellite system if there is a malfunction and you have to climb about 13 meters up onto the roof.

It's different for everyone. We manage without cable or satellite because watching TV is not exactly considered culturally valuable here, to put it mildly. However, I have found that it wouldn’t be a problem at all to watch live TV anyway. There are plenty of streaming apps on the Android TV and Amazon also wants to offer live TV soon. As a second alternative, there is Telekom Entertain and as a third option DVB-T2. The most important thing would probably be to get a fast internet connection, like FTTH, and to equip the house with enough network cabling.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know, you pay x € monthly (5-10?) for the "cable connection." This gives you digital TV via cable.

If you then book 3Play with HD+, you get telephone, internet, and HD channels included.

If you don't pay for a "cable connection" and get 3Play, it could be that you have internet and telephone, but I believe you then can't watch TV, neither digital nor HD.

A satellite connection is a one-time payment! Cable connection is monthly.

HD probably costs about 5€ extra on both, so you can exclude that from the consideration.

You should best inform yourself first.

Everyone has unanimously said so far that you should at least prepare the SAT. You asked here for that advice, right? Seems like you’d rather want to hear something else.

And if preparing is supposed to cost 500€ or 1000€, then take a grinder in hand, chisel a slot (hammer and chisel) from top to bottom and lay an empty conduit in it. I just did that at our place on Friday, it took about 30 minutes, the empty conduit cost about 10€, only the cable and the socket (100€?) are missing.

That is correct, the 3play package also comes with cable base fees (I think €20.90 per month or even €21.90). Also, with cable TV you cannot change the provider. Once Unitymedia, always Unitymedia. Whether that is bad, only the crystal ball knows. The fact is, cable networks are not regulated and the provider can do whatever they want. SAT does not cost the earth, even if ongoing fees were to apply from 2022, it is worth it compared to the connection costs and base fees of other TV transmission methods until then (after all, four years). For data, I would take Unitymedia if no one lays FTTH. Copper via Telekom tends to reach the end of what is feasible, so I would most likely give that up.
