If possible FTTH fiber optic. With Vodafone cable, you can have luck or bad luck with the available performance/stability.

FTTH vs. DOCSIS is really like Ferrari versus soapbox derby. I would also pay significantly more for FTTH than for DOCSIS. The only disadvantage with Telekom is the really shitty peering, which is even better at Vodafone. But that doesn’t help if the line either completely fails or is totally overloaded. The latter is actually the normal state with DOCSIS unless you are very lucky and are in a barely used segment.

Here is FTTH from Telekom, and it does not matter at all whether it is Christmas, Easter, or International Women's Day, the internet is always equally fast. There are no disruptions either. Maybe a router reset is sometimes necessary, but that is all.

The pure FTTH connection from Telekom is already stable, but the Telekom peering behind it is not exactly great. I only have VDSL, but I switched to O2 because of the peering. Telefonica is better positioned there. O2, besides Telekom, also has the advantage that you automatically get your own IPv4 address. With other providers, you usually depend on a good support agent, have to book the option for an additional fee, or the option does not exist at all, as with Deutsche Glasfaser.

Many standard users hardly notice this at all, but if you have one or the other special use case, these additional points can already be important. For me, these are almost more important than the pure connection speed.

I don't even know what peering is, it can't be that important, otherwise I would have noticed it.

I also wonder why an IPv4 address is still so important for certain applications. That only shows that IPv6 is not promoted well enough. In my impression, it simply hasn't reached everyone's mind yet. Edit: by minds I mean the industry.
