We will first only install the Telekom (copper) connection with a contract at Telekom = 400€ discount through the home builder service.

In two or four years, we will then install the Unity Media connection, also discounted because of a direct contract with Unity Media.

To make sure that works at all, we are already laying an empty conduit to the street to be built.

However, we will never get TV from Unity Media because it is way too expensive; instead, there will be a satellite system on the roof. Additionally, there are plenty of providers of online video libraries that offer a lot for little money.

Why not right away? To each time collect the discount? Is it that easy to lay empty conduit in advance? In a few years Unity Media will have to dig a trench again to lay the cables, right? With us, the Telekom connection is installed as a multi-utility connection. I have no idea if the Unity Media connection is also installed there.

The basic fee at UM is only charged if you want to have TV. We have the cable connection from UM installed, but only use internet for 25 euros at 60MBit. TV comes with hundreds of channels via the satellite dish.

I have now found out that the municipal utilities have installed fiber optic cables on site. In my case, this is called FTTC. They go up to 50 Mbit/s. I don't need faster. In my current rental apartment, I have Unitymedia with 10 Mbit/s and can watch streams perfectly. Therefore, this also seems to me a good alternative to the Unitymedia connection.

That sounds like a good option.
It could also be the reason why Telekom only offers 16 Mbit. In our new development area, they are even slower because the city held a competition and a regional company was awarded the contract for broadband supply. So there will be FTTH connections from this provider (even without connection fees).

A silly question: We are planning a multi-utility connection: a) Will the Unitymedia cable connection also be installed in it? b) Since it is more or less an empty conduit: Is it possible to retrofit the cable connection later on, e.g., in a few years, without much effort, meaning without another excavation or breakthrough?
