Sat doesn't work, so I'll plug in the cable? You do realize that you have to sign a contract with a monthly fee with the cable operator, right? And pay for it but only use it in an emergency? In my opinion, pointless.

The other way around would make more sense. If the cable connection doesn't work, connect the Sat.

Although the costs for both are in no relation to the benefit. If Sat doesn't work for me, I talk to my fellow human beings, read a book, listen to the radio, or do something else. :-)

Yes, that would of course only be an option if I really also have a monthly cable connection and pay for it. I have now informed myself. There are multiswitches that have an extra antenna input. The cable connection can be connected there. However, I would probably have to have the cable laid separately from the basement to the roof (multiswitch).

I read here a lot that people have a cable connection for phone and internet but then use SAT.

That is actually much more expensive than a normal phone-DSL connection with Telekom, Vodafone, etc. Phone + internet may be 5,- cheaper at first glance, but you also have to pay the basic fee for the cable connection. That makes it considerably more expensive.

The cable connection itself costs no basic fee at Unitymedia! For example, 2Play Plus with a 100,000 line + phone flat rate only costs 30 EUR for two years. I can never get that with Telekom! Then the extra effort for the connection actually pays off eventually.

OK, I had overlooked that. That is of course a great alternative to Telekom & Co.

The question did not arise for us, since we don't have cable. But even if we did, I wouldn't have taken it, because the monthly costs already ate up the one-time costs of the satellite system after two years.

We have a good 90cm dish on the roof and are satisfied.
What’s so bad if the reception drops out sometimes? Just turn off the flimmerbox. It’s all junk anyway. :D
And cable, especially UnityMedia, is not safe from outages. I was a customer for 10 years and had more problems with no internet connection with no other provider than with this one.
In case of a strong thunderstorm, your cable connection goes out too.

Hello,

we do not have UnityMedia, but Kabel BW. After frequent disruptions in the first year, we now have a very stable telephone and internet connection.

And I have not yet experienced it failing even once.

In principle, I would also install a SAT dish on the house, but keep internet and telephone via cable. However, since the effort for this double installation is too great for me (we have a listed building that I do not want to spoil with a SAT dish, and I would have to dig a trench to the garage), we take everything from one source.

It is repeatedly discussed that the channels should also be encrypted via satellite. If that happens, then the monthly costs will also be pointless!

Best regards
