I have ordered the Telekom connection anyway. Is the bandwidth limit reached with the Telekom connection? Otherwise, I will leave the Telekom connection unused for now and take 2Play with Unitymedia, then the connection will only cost me 400€, and for TV I will install a satellite system.

16 MBit is ADSL2. So no VDSL deployed, let alone VDSL2. In this case, I would strongly recommend the cable connection, ADSL2 with 16 MBit is already at the maximum, it can't go higher unless VDSL is expanded. With 2play, by the way, you do not have to pay for the basic connection, so you only pay for the 2play package, nothing more. TV then via SAT.

Should I then cancel the Telekom connection after all? However, with a pure "dependency" on Unitymedia, I also feel uneasy.

Opinions differ on this. Telekom always strives to keep the competition out during network expansion. With VDSL2 (Vectoring), they have recently succeeded in doing so to some extent. But yes, with cable you are tied down. As of today, I would say it doesn’t matter at all because the products are more than competitive. For the future... broken crystal ball. Even in the past, when people still surfed the web with 768kbit DSL connections, cable providers were already ahead and offered 2 MBit, etc., so actually, at least the big ones have not proven to be backward so far.

Whether you spend 800€ for a later option or eventually 1500€ for upgrading a Telekom connection... that’s up to you, I would save it. But there will be users who would do that; buying options/preparations is quite popular here to avoid making the wrong decision for the future :)

Here I just ask myself: Sure, you're right, but who tells me that Telekom won't expand again to stay competitive. I think I should definitely have the connection installed.

The supply map in the network also shows currently planned expansion projects. Beyond that, nothing else can be found out. 16 MBit would be clearly too little for me today. Therefore, I wouldn’t wait for the day after never. If you want the connection, then just buy it. You know the price. In 10 years, fiber optics will belong to basic services anyway and will be rolled out everywhere, because everything else is just crutches. Crystal ball off.
