How did the burglars know that the switch is located at that spot? A lot of effort for a lucky hit. Maybe the switches should rather be installed near the room door, so no one from outside can reach them.
Well – since, I think, it is very common for the switch to be placed next to the window and they did not see it anywhere else in the room, the burglars probably successfully felt around.
Apart from that – a rather unusual method (even had not heard of it yet). Above all – you first have to come up with the idea that this can be done.
The consideration to install the switch centrally in the room is not so bad – but possibly a bit more expensive (more cables, possibly combining several windows, etc.). Whether this still fits into the budget, everyone can only answer for themselves.
And then there was a case where there really were RC2 windows like that on the ground floor. But the homeowner had a ladder hanging unsecured in the carport, so the burglars just used it to get through the not-so-secured windows upstairs. A proper vulnerability analysis must consider the entire property and all possibilities, otherwise even burglar-proof windows help little.
That’s again the typical case of thinking otherwise. You secure everything well and then shoot yourself in the foot with such an “obvious” mistake. .
