So what do you then control automatically?

After the handover and subsequent renovation (existing property), we initially only equipped all the roller shutters (radio-controlled) electrically. It had always been my wish to at least have electric roller shutters to avoid the straps :) I didn’t conduct extensive research on which system to install. I then decided on Somfy because it is also installed by the local carpenter (my wife was pretty "meh" about the system). Each motor – a total of 25 – came with a simple remote control that could also be mounted as a switch on the wall. At first, we wanted to do without switches at each window to see which roller shutters would actually be controlled. Although the radio system was about €100 per window, it offers me much more flexibility, especially since the tahoma box arrived shortly afterwards and the automation began. Tahoma is, so to speak, the radio station that sends signals to the receivers. At the moment, the signals are only sent according to a schedule. Thus, the roller shutters in the bedrooms and bathrooms go down in the evening and back up in the morning. Each roller shutter can be controlled individually – also via mobile phone from anywhere. In summer, certain roller shutters are lowered in the afternoon according to schedule to reduce sunlight exposure. The latter could also be controlled by a sun sensor, which can easily be integrated into the system. This makes sense because currently the roller shutters also go down when there is no sun :) I have also integrated some power outlets into the system. Thus, the outdoor lighting is controlled according to sunrise and sunset.
Soon, lighting may also be added. For this, small boards (Somfy Izymo) can be installed. With new construction, of course – depending on the budget (!) – there are entirely different possibilities. Of course, it does not have to be Somfy. There are plenty of other systems.
Ultimately, even after a year, we still don’t have switches for the roller shutters at the windows (with radio control, they can of course be placed anywhere else). Manual control is done by mobile phone or with the remote controls, which – as mentioned above – are placed in an organized (!) manner.
In hindsight, of course, money could have been saved by only electrically equipping the most important roller shutters, since there are some that are rarely or never used.
