We now live in Potsdam - no chance here to get an affordable plot of land. Therefore we are going back to our old home of Lower Saxony - the plot is a one-off lucky find in terms of location, as it is within walking distance to the train station and pedestrian zone.

Splitlevel is not the cheapest, just like the bungalow. For you, it is about as few steps as possible, as little enclosed space as possible, and moving as little earth as possible.

Relatively, exactly. That's how I see it too: getting the best out of the wishes. And also getting the best and most cost-effective solution despite possible additional costs. I consider SplitLevel to be the most pleasant solution. I have already written the reasons for this above. Just post your project with all information about the plot, development plan, etc. in the subforum Floor Plan Planning. Then ambitious members here would also have something tangible to make suggestions about.

Oh, I have probably said that several times in my basement posts: a half basement costs about three quarters, a three-quarter basement costs about ninety percent. One should not forget that the 11ant basement rule still applies to the omitted part. In addition, the development / house entry comes from the mountain side here. Thus, on balance, any "alternative" to a full basement would be a Pyrrhic victory. I do not consider this a constructive hint here: in the example , rocky ground was the main reason for not basing large areas. This cannot be compared to the consideration of the basement question purely from the aspect of slope steepness.

Neither do I: as far as I know, Hampshire's house was very large. So, whether with a basement or not, a house is always an individual project in terms of needs. And Max's needs were also very, very different.

I would always try to make something out of the conditions on a sloping plot and not just pile up earth and put a slab-on-grade house on it. But to each their own (or can, since it costs money). A slope is something special!
