Hello everyone,
I hope I ended up in the right subforum... otherwise just move it...
It's about the staircase shown (standard prefabricated house staircase), which I don't like at all, but it was already there. Do you have any ideas with what those struts/railings could be replaced to make it look nicer?
I had glass filling in mind, but with little kids, finger traps/safety is not quite ideal...
I am very much looking forward to suggestions. Thank you very much.

That is the "Sella" model from Heinz von Heiden in beech, isn't it?

I would replace the metal bars with wooden bars. That looks less cold and nicer to me. I myself also do not find open stair treads attractive. With enough money, I would close them as well. Otherwise, a staircase just fades into the background. You get used to it.

I am afraid that you will quickly lose a lot of money due to changes. I could also imagine metal rods, steel cable, perforated sheet metal, or something similar, or simply just working with paint. The background of the niche could, for example, be completely in a bold color, then the whole current staircase would already look different. The handrail maybe waxed in gray..., even the steps could be designed in a different color. Or, if it is really bad for you – then get rid of it. Although one should consider that it is just a staircase that has to have its function. I would therefore wait a little first to see if the feeling when looking at it stays the same or if it calms down over time.

I wouldn't do anything with a toddler. Only when the "I throw my toys down the stairs" phase is over would I consider changing something.

Thank you all for the creative suggestions. Yes, it is the Sella model. You certainly get used to the look, and money is of course an issue. Especially with the current real estate prices. Let's see what can be implemented. Have a nice day!
