In which direction is the staircase? Experience and opinions

Your drawing implies a straight basement staircase. Of course, I don't want to step onto a straight staircase when I open the basement door. That would then be a 1/4 turn at the top.

But that's exactly what you drew in post #18 in V1.

yes crap, I only just realized that the depicted stairs can be assumed to be basement stairs. They were supposed to be the variants of the ground floor stairs.
