This is a quote taken out of context by a third party, which in my opinion probably does not reflect the whole truth including all conscious and unconscious motives. Apart from that, I find that the term "career" is used too often. Almost always, professional or gainful employment fits better in my opinion. However, it depends on what one understands by career.

I had mentioned that my experience comes from a specific context: right after the reunification, all young, all employed in a university environment. It stood out to me because it was the opposite of the parenting ideology common here in the West.

Desire for children, that is a wide field, which would certainly go beyond the scope here. All, meaning every conscious and unconscious motive for the desire to have a child, are in my assessment unfathomable. Many people (I do not exclude myself at all) lack even in simpler and simplest contexts the ability to analyze and reflect; regarding the topic of desire for children, which is so emotionally, politically, and ideologically overloaded, I consider it significantly harder still. Of course, there are superficial and supposedly obvious reasons. Whether these depict the whole truth, I cannot assess.

Where was the father? He would have been the better nanny... You care for such a child as a couple. I can totally understand with her pointed questions.
The story drips with blaming the lady, while it discreetly remains silent about the gentleman.

If it were about the career! A challenging consultant activity would not be a career for me now Anyway, whether full-time or part-time.

Very few people are likely to make a career, that is, to end up in top management. Everything below that is not a career, but rather being an order taker/clerk. But you can talk yourself into this nonsense. The correct thing to say would be that I want to earn as much as possible and do as little as possible for it. Everyone else has not understood capitalism and are to be pitied for pushing their children into "careers."
