Would it be possible to simply install another empty box? The cable will presumably be damaged if you leave out a box around the cable, right?
It's a shame that the planner lets you walk right into a trap like that.
Yes, I also wished the electrician had said something about it. They probably have never installed something like that before, or it didn’t have to look "nice." I had naively assumed that you could just shorten the cable and still hide it ;-)
Would it be possible to install an empty box as well?
I think so. You just have to be careful not to damage the existing cable. But make sure the box is big enough. A standard flush-mounted box will not be sufficient.
I have solved this on the exterior facade so far with standard Cat7 installation cable, keystone module, short patch cable, heat shrink tubing, and electrical tape. At least it has withstood the rain in July so far.

No. No one explicitly told them, so they simply didn't care. Usually, the tradespeople even notice such mistakes but say nothing because it would cause delays for them. Then the botched work is gladly corrected later as a change order.
Would it still be possible to install an empty conduit box? The cable will presumably be damaged if you leave out a box around the cable, right?
If you know exactly where the cable comes from, then you can try. Otherwise, little hammer and chisel :)
If I were an electrician and the client says once LAN from the ceiling, then he simply gets a cable from the ceiling without a socket like a cable for a light. I think many electricians have never even held an access point themselves and don’t even know that usually there is no space for the LAN cable in the housing. The client is also called upon here to say what he needs.
