There are now special artificial grass strips for this.

I believe the OP is fully capable of installing artificial turf.

Kerstin these fences are also installed on 300m2 plots, this is the norm here in the West. NO ONE here has a fence that is 1.2m high, unless they have 5000m2 or so. They don’t have that, don’t need it. Every plot in the new development area has something like this and NO ONE is bothered by it. Here is an example where you can see a piece of the fence, plot 542m2
20 Bandicoot Ramble, Baldivis, WA 6171 on realestate or simply Street View at this address you can clearly see the fence at the corner house.

It is just privacy screening, nothing more is needed. The houses are in a row, i.e. garage-house-garage-house, only it is different at the corner house. The terrace is often primarily behind the garage, it is covered. So you theoretically look at the side of the next house, where there are hardly any windows. Our houses are elongated, the plots are elongated.

My right neighbor worked on his pool, terrace roof etc. every day after work for years. It was a construction site behind the house. That would be an absolute nightmare if I had had to see that.

All because of privacy, even bathroom windows have to be opaque.

here 334m2. older house

Just because everyone does it that way with you doesn't make it better. The American solution is often very effective, but it is rarely elegant.

this is a different picture of my garden from last year, you can hardly see the neighbor's house. This terrace is not attached to the house everyone is free to design their m2 as they wish, whether just a pool with paving around it (this neighbor, he has no interest in plants) but you are basically on your own.
