I would be careful with ivy. That stuff grows too fast and in 10 years it develops trunks so thick that you can't control it anymore. The only advantage of ivy is that it is evergreen.

I also think that's a very good idea - think of Goethe's "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" when choosing the climbing plants. ;)

But you have read it in context, right? "That's just how it's done" in Australia. Different countries, different customs. In this case, they say "Yuck, how can you present yourself so openly, no one wants to see that!" There is no right or wrong here.

I have to say, I don't find the fence that bad. I would like it, as long as the property is big enough
