I can't imagine having carpet anymore even though I grew up with it. But a play rug, preferably washable, is definitely practical.

"a play mat"

yes, exactly.
A smooth floor that is easy to clean and a carpet on top for a soft feeling under the feet.
The downside is the tripping edge, but overall it is the more flexible solution.

Nothing beats these great "traffic play mats," where you could nicely drive Matchbox _ cars for a long time. Anyone who stumbles over this edge should maybe work on their running style. ;) But in general, carpet is no longer modern from my point of view.

Thank you very much for the many responses.

Carpet is completely out for us, it is no longer up-to-date and also for hygienic reasons.

I quickly couldn’t find any affordable bamboo parquet. The bamboo parquet also looks a bit unusual (but it’s not completely out). Can you say what advantages bamboo parquet has over normal parquet? Can you also give a tip where to find it cheaply, for example a shop? Is bamboo parquet always lacquered?

We have a relatively large dog, about 45 kg. Of course, it shouldn’t scratch the floor with every run or play, so I’m looking for one that is quite durable.

The child should also not get scratches on the floor too easily (completely avoiding that is impossible anyway).

I have to honestly say I am overwhelmed by the many different types of parquet (without studying it, no one can really keep track :D).

Yes, rigid vinyl is also an option. If vinyl is the better choice for us, I wanted to see which vinyl is best: normal with impact sound insulation or rigid vinyl? The impact sound insulation can possibly compensate better for unevenness in the screed (dents or bumps) than the rigid, right?

I initially don’t mind plastic on the floor much, as long as it is not harmful to health or has other negative points. If vinyl is best for us in terms of properties, it wouldn’t be ruled out just because it’s plastic.

Plastics - no matter from which corner - will eventually end up in the ocean. If you think 100 or 200 years ahead, you can see that. Of course, I also use plastics ... drive a car and a bike ... but where I can avoid it, I avoid it ...

Here is a list of advantages and disadvantages of vinyl and parquet

Advantages and disadvantages of vinyl:

[*]extensive selection of unique decors and colors
[*]natural reproduction of wood and stone floors
[*]low installation height (therefore ideal for renovations)
    [*]contains only natural plasticizers
[*]suitable for installation in wet rooms such as kitchens and bathrooms
    [*]low emissions and antibacterial
    [*]warm to the touch
[*]can be installed over underfloor heating
    [*]low noise and pleasant acoustics
[*]very easy to maintain (no oiling and polishing required)
    [*]easy to install
    [*]non-slip

Advantages and disadvantages of parquet:

[*]natural solid wood flooring from sustainable forestry
    [*]timeless and elegant
[*]exceptional material quality and high-quality surface finishing
    [*]particularly durable and resilient
    [*]wide-ranging and individual design possibilities
    [*]highest functionality
    [*]healthy living and recyclable
    [*]natural and fantastic tactile feel
[*]easy to install thanks to our patented click mechanism
    [*]warm to the touch
    [*]pleasant walking feel
[*]can be installed over underfloor heating
[*]particularly dimensionally stable due to its three-layer construction
    [*]increased swelling resistance

These are the pros and cons that Parador has listed about its products

I had found a similar list somewhere else as well

Both described vinyl as particularly impact sound insulating and joint-friendly

Is it really true that vinyl has better impact sound insulation than vinyl when both are installed as floating floors?
