Yes, the indoor ones are no good. And I’m not spending 7000€ on a whirlpool tub from Villeroy & Boch, where only one person can fit. I’d rather round up to 10000€ and get a proper one outside. It’s just cool to sit in warm water and relax when it’s cold.

I don’t care about the neighbors. If it bothers them, you can just put a roof over it. With us, it would stand under the sunshade on the terrace. That could be rolled out if the views are a problem.

I had an outdoor hot tub for over 5 years until last winter.
My experiences:
The pool was a display model, bought directly at the fair. 6500 EUR including shipping. The RRP was over 10000 EUR.
So already a Mercedes among heat pumps. Two generous lounging areas and four additional seats. Packed full of massage jets and every unnecessary gimmick. But never mind, we wanted that thing.
In the garden, we then placed it under an old carport. A hot tub should definitely be covered.
And there really isn’t much cooler than stepping into the hot tub heated to 38 degrees on a cold, grimy winter day. The relaxation starts immediately. Then onto the lounging area, adjust the massage jets as desired, close your eyes, and enjoy. We didn’t want to get out anymore. And that was also one of the big disadvantages of an outdoor hot tub. Getting out of the heated pool at minus 5 degrees is NO kids’ birthday party…, quickly dry off, sprint back into the house…
Then the electricity costs, oh boy. We operated the pool from October until early May. Used on average two to three times a week. Heated up 2 hours beforehand to 38 degrees. In between, lowered to 28-30 degrees. You can’t cool it down much more than that, otherwise heating up to "operating temperature" takes too long.
The circulation pump runs 24/7. Electricity costs for the approx. 7 months: 500-600 EUR. Plus water, which hardly matters. Cleaning is manageable with a decent ozonator.
You should absolutely keep the operating costs in mind!

The electricity costs are one reason. The way from the pool to the house I found so far more pleasant than the other way around.

Truly refreshing: Bathing in the Atlantic in Reykjavik in winter.

We are planning to build a hot tub for the garden at some point because we loved these things during our trip to Iceland. Unfortunately, we don't have hot springs here, but at least you can try to bring this great experience home. Absolutely fantastic even without bubbling. Then you can also listen to nature.

For that, the water here does not smell like sulfur.

Yes, but I found that really very very different from corner to corner. Or rather even from house to house.
