So we are already one step further.

Red is out for the video doorbell. Visitors would stand too close to the door or the doorbell. We will mount the ekey on red.

For the video doorbell, only Green and Blue remain. We can't decide.

I have a few questions:

At what height is the mailbox usually hung? The upper edge at about 1.20-1.25m? The sill height of the guest WC window is 1.30m. Can the mailbox be hung below that or is that too low?

Should everything maybe be squeezed weather-protected under the canopy?

Red = ekey is fixed.

What should we do with Green and Blue?

Option 1: Green = video doorbell and mailbox next to each other, with the video doorbell closer to the door. Blue = nothing

Option 2: Green = video doorbell and Blue = mailbox

Option 3: Green = mailbox and Blue = video doorbell

Which of these options would you recommend and why?

I am grateful for your help.
We are already desperate :/

... wouldn't it be sensible to show the image again in such a summary post so that people remember where red, green, and blue are?

I attached it again.

Sorry, I didn't think of it and sorry if I'm bothering you, but we are really desperate right now and don't want to make a wrong decision that can't be changed anymore.

I definitely see a market gap for front doors with integrated video doorbells and integrated insulated mail slots.

These really aren't decisions that you can't change. If necessary, it will just be a battery-operated doorbell, and you can reposition the mailbox. I would just stand at a door and try out which distances and heights I would like.

Although our construction was already 9 years ago and quite a bit has happened in the technical field since then, in hindsight we had really terrible material selections. The home construction company, and especially the electrician, could have earned more there if they had provided proper advice. The electrical selection was more about switch series (which we couldn’t have cared less about) than about functionality.

In the end, something like that already exists, but because it involves multiple trades, it causes too many problems for the general contractor.

@ Alex

Blue has the advantage that the visitor can stand in front of it. But if they take a step forward, you might no longer see them. With red, they stand completely in front of the door or keep their distance, and then you might also no longer see them. Green is the same if they move toward the door. As you correctly recognized, you can prevent this by installing the camera at an angle. Doorbird offers corresponding wedges as accessories. But they’re not very stylish. No idea if Ring offers these as accessories too.

If you are so uncertain, have empty conduits installed at the 3 locations and put in blank boxes. You can surely install the Ring yourself. Then you can test it, and if it works, open the box there and pull in the cables.

Or you order them now and test before the lines are laid.

I just retrofitted the Goliath door intercom system with 2 indoor stations myself. It’s not rocket science. On Monday, a company will retrofit the automatic lock into the door. That was too risky for me to do myself.
