Usually, that's how it's done during the construction phase.

Mailbox from the hardware store on some wooden/metal post and number painted on it.

We simply drove a fence post into the ground, on which a box was then attached with two pipe clamps.

When the proper fence finally came, a proper box was also attached to the fence section.

And then the number went on the house (first have a holder plastered in).

Ok, thanks for your answers, then let's first look for a cheap temporary solution.

I agree with the suggestions of my predecessors: Mount a cheap mailbox on a pole and drive it into the ground, put the number on it (a marker should also work), and once everything on the outside is finished, attach the final mailbox/number.

On Saturday we are moving and still have no solution (because there was still something more important to take care of)... :-(

Our construction manager said: "Buy a 'real' mailbox (the one we want to keep later) and drill it on. Then remove it again for the exterior plaster and drill it on again. The old plugs will probably remain in the masonry.

What do you think about that? Or would it be better to drill it onto a pallet? That would just be leaning against the house wall, which I also don't find very convincing.

We will make the house number with a spray can or paint...

That's exactly what we did. We only put the house number on the garage, which came pre-plastered from the concrete plant.
