We deliberately planned our utility room on the upper floor, in this case directly next to the bedroom.
The washing machine and dryer run without causing much noise or disturbance.
Of course, one should try to avoid spinning cycles during night and sleeping hours as much as possible, which I occasionally try to make my wife understand ;), but otherwise!?
In the technical room on the ground floor, we still prudently planned the appropriate space with a drain, etc., in case we didn’t like having the machines on the upper floor, but so far that has not been the case. We are very satisfied with it so far.
Instead of the optional machine spaces on the ground floor, there is a small kitchenette with a sink, etc., which is at least just as practical :)
