Hello everyone,

currently we are planning the arrangement of our spots - primarily in the shower area for our bathroom.

At the moment we have 4 spots included in the contract at our request - of course this could be increased/decreased at any time (1x spot for concrete ceiling = €70.00).

I have attached our bathroom on the upper floor.

Shower: the depth completely up to the "toilet wall" is 2.10m - width is 1.00m. The wall towards the door should be built 3/4 high - meaning the shower is not completely enclosed and possibly still gets some light because the wall is not built all the way up. The toilet wall is half-high and contains glass above, so light also comes in here. How many spots would you fit in the shower and how would you arrange them? Are 4 spots really necessary here?

I have attached our kitchen on the ground floor.

Here we are also planning to integrate 2 spots over the "counter" - additionally a normal lamp in the middle of the kitchen. Does this make sense or not? The kitchen is relatively long, so we assume that 2 spots over the counter area could be good for the lighting.

Then we are considering doing this typical spot lighting at the stairs - see the exemplary illustration attached.

What do you think about it? Is the general contractor "allowed" to charge €70.00 per spot here as well or is it cheaper for some reason to place the spots on the wall? Is something like this even sensible, or does anyone have experience with it, or is it ultimately just a visual treat that costs a lot of money?

Otherwise, we are actually not planning any spots in the house.

We would appreciate a brief help with our thoughts :)

What other light is coming into the bathroom? So 4 spots just in the shower is quite a lot ^^ In our floor-to-ceiling shower (with glass partition) about 1.3 x 1.8 m I have 2 spots. Make sure the spots are not directly above the overhead shower/rain shower, because otherwise you only get shadows.

Just for comparison. In our kids' bathroom (about 4.5 m²) I have a total of only 4 spots + mirror light.

I would have installed 4 pieces in the bathroom. It also depends a lot on the light source. We have 3 pieces and our bathroom is a bit smaller. Personally, I don't think much of the counter spots. Most have classic pendant lights there. Spots within the kitchen would be conceivable to minimize shadows on the work surface. If you have a light in the center, you will always cast a shadow on the work surface while cooking.

You generally don't gain more safety through light with the spots on the stairs. Personally, I find it very appealing visually and would do it again, but essentially it is just a bit of optics for a lot of money.

I assume that the 70€ for your ceiling spots is just the outlet. You have to get the light source yourself. In the end, it is about 100-120€ per spot if you don't take the extravagant models. A similar price will come out for the stair spots. Possibly even more expensive because the electrician can only come once the stairs are installed. And then it's a tight day's work. So presumably a second trip... Depending on the coordination of the [GU].

Depending on how handy you are and how relaxed your [GU] is, you can save a lot of money on electrical work through self-performance. The connection at the end is still done by the electrician.

Edit: I assumed the whole bathroom with 4 spots and not just in the shower...

Thank you for the great answer.

We are actually only planning spots in the shower area! Four spots here are definitely oversized, right? We just don’t want the shower to be a dark hole.

We had a similar idea about the kitchen... We also suspect that the corner behind the sink could be quite dark... So additional spots in the kitchen area might actually be conceivable - we will think about it.

I really find the staircase idea incredibly stylish... I think we will treat ourselves to that - but here we will talk to our general contractor about how high the costs will be.

For your information according to our construction contract:

4x Halox-P flush-mounted boxes at €65.00 each (sorry, I was off by €5 :D) - so I also assume that the light bulbs are not included.

Upstairs in the city villa, each room has 6 spots. And in the stairwell/hallway, we installed 5 spots. All are also adjustable.

Very nice gadget. Definitely do it! Price-wise, the GC can charge whatever he wants ;-) What exactly do you get for the 70€ (applies to the ceiling spots as well)? already mentioned that. It is much easier to install the spot in the concrete ceiling. One with a wide beam angle or two with a somewhat narrower beam.
