I think we’ll skip the USB sockets then – if there’s ever a need for them, we can still retrofit them later.

The motion sensors/presence detectors in the basement and in the hallway on the ground floor are actually much more important to us. We need something there!

I totally agree with you. Built-in USB is nice-to-have but by far not as much of a convenience gain as automatic lighting.

We had a motion sensor installed in the upstairs hallway, would recommend. It's quite practical. For us it's nothing special, the light just turns on when you open a door. But it wasn't that expensive, I think around 200 with everything included.

200 INCLUDING motion detector? For me, the main concern regarding the prices is the installation/connection costs.

I still have to buy my lamps afterwards as well - that's why I don't necessarily want to include the motion detector itself in the calculation for now. Do I need to prepare anything in advance, or will something be more expensive at the beginning if I want a motion detector?

Depends on the motion detector. There are significant differences not only in functionality but also in the wiring. Even determining the right position alone can take some time.

And then you need (if it’s just a very simple motion detector) 2x 3x1.5 cables at the spot to supply power to the detector and then with the second 3x1.5 cable to bring power towards the light.

If you also want to be able to switch off the detector, you need to consider even more in advance.

Does the detector actually go off even when it is light, or can it possibly also be controlled by a "timer"?
