I see the master bedroom in the southeast on the plans. I’m curious how it actually is. Our 3 children's rooms are, just like the master bedroom, oriented to the south. The master bedroom also has a window to the east, one of the children's rooms has a small window to the west. All floor-to-ceiling windows are about 2.40 meters wide facing south. It was important to us during planning that everyone has access to the balcony, which runs the entire width of the house. Now, 15 years later, I probably wouldn’t do it that way anymore. At the latest when the children work or play a lot on screens, the sun is disturbing – despite a large roof overhang, here the shutters are actually almost completely closed from noon on. Our eldest doesn’t like heat at all. He would probably be happier with a room on the north/west side with light from two directions. It would still be bright enough. So it really varies individually and shouldn’t be a dogma to necessarily have the children’s rooms facing south. But Katja’s objection is also justified. What is the alternative? Something has to face south. The width of the children’s rooms seems way too small to me. We have the same length, a width of 3.15 to 3.30. There is very little room for furnishing. A bed (140x200) next to the door just fits. A closet behind the door then not at all. Today I would actually pay attention to more square dimensions.
