I quite like the layout below - apart from the chimney in the middle of the room - but the upstairs layout seems quite awkward to me. A huge storage room without any other function, the bathroom doesn’t win any beauty contests and it’s not even furnished yet! Bedroom in the south - why would one want that? Do you want to lie in bed during the day and steal the southern sun from the kids? They would definitely like it while playing in their room. A child’s room only has light from one side - very unfortunate. I would take the upper floor and completely throw it away. The staircase position is only optimized for the ground floor - this is a dilemma because upstairs this narrow strip behind the staircase is created, which is hardly usable.

Hello Kaho, originally we thought that with external dimensions of 10x12m it should be possible to elegantly plan a straight staircase. But it isn't. In earlier plans, an open space was integrated upstairs, which now had to give way to a storage room. (The strip at the top) The southeast orientation of the master bedroom is selfishly desired by us because we get up early and like to have the morning sun. The corner solution of the bathroom is difficult to change during the day if it is also supposed to have the east side. And the lighting situation of one of the children's rooms is also still a thorn in our side... But that's what we're here for.

Great, then congratulations, you can completely scrap the kids' rooms on the upper floor. I assume the space requirement approaches zero if you measure the currently existing furniture for the kids' room? Now seriously: you’re quibbling over small details here. With me it’s the fight over the couch, with others the fight over the wardrobe. Take care of the bigger picture. Furnish the entire house, thinking about the future as well. Maybe one kids’ room will be too small then? The bathroom too big? The storage room no longer feasible because you need the space for other rooms? Then you have totally different options again. Also take a look at the current development of TVs. I do think you should plan that for the future as well and not “we bought a 32-inch in 2014 and until we’re 90 it won’t be anything else!”.

Yes, this trick is really so surprisingly simple that everyone understands it: if you want to push a floor plan against the wall from the very first stroke, especially with a gable roof and a straight staircase, you just have to start with the ground floor and then failure works like clockwork. Trick two - a bit more advanced - is to split the room program 50/50 for a "one-and-a-half storey" between the two floors. The real hardcore masochists then add an open space on top. It's not a question of 3D, 5G, take two or 16V whether the result delights.

Well, I wouldn't call it a discussion. I'm just trying to share our thoughts with you to explain how we came up with certain ideas. Therefore, I would like to use your experience to optimize this.

Unfortunately, we don't have any children's furniture yet, since there are no children. But I'll take your word for it when you say that it's not enough.

I have already understood that it won't work as drawn. I'm open to anything...

So plan bigger downstairs regarding the furniture and bigger children's rooms upstairs and a better bathroom. I have a clear idea so far and will try to implement it...
