I think the measuring device is poorly calibrated. A light breeze that moves leaves already has more dB.

Whispering is 20 dB(A).
Be careful, there is also a difference between dB and dB(A). When it comes to loudness, it is usually measured in dB(A). This takes into account the frequency spectrum audible to humans and filters out the other frequencies.

I don't have a measuring device, just an app. But since I measured both times with it, it should at least be comparable.

I also find it helpful that you want to convince me that it's not loud, but guys, it's just extremely unpleasant. It's constantly there and therefore loud.

I also won't invest in ventilation or anything like that here. I want to keep the windows open at night!!! For me, that has something to do with quality of life. But the fountain will definitely be used next summer, although during the day it doesn't bother me anymore except when I'm out walking.

PS: The place has even been in the press several times because of the noise problem. Well, I should have informed myself beforehand. I'm slowly starting to not understand the world anymore.

I don’t understand the world anymore either. Have you ever asked the bank what the prepayment penalty would cost?
If living there is not an option for you, then you have to sell the house and either go back to renting or buy another property. Another solution, as has been clear since page 1, will not be possible.
Some people have no problem living on a four-lane main road with a tram in the middle, while others find it too loud even at the North Pole. If you belong to the latter, then the location is not for you and that will not change.

Hi you,

yes, I agree with you. I will not settle here. Deep inside I already know that. We haven’t asked about a prepayment penalty yet, because—as I wrote a few pages ago—I am taking the advice not to make a rushed decision for now.

We will stay here for at least a year and use the time to reflect on what went wrong, how this decision came about (the exact reasons), and what the optimum would be. I hope for a conscious decision about the area (we both moved here) so that in a second step we can find the optimal solution here (no more compromise solutions like this house!). Then this solution has to be found first, which is the biggest problem. Currently, I have a feeling that building something might be an option for us to really settle here. Ideally, we could then transfer the loan with us.

But in any case, we will stay here for now. After all, I have a roof over my head, a working heating system, and a fridge.

I think the topic can be closed here. I thank you for the empathy and understanding here. The first shock, the first grief and anger at myself have been eased and I agree with most: I will get used to it. Maybe I will also have good times during the year. Even if it is still a stupid feeling to know that I made such a stupid wrong decision. I just have to deal with it.

the good thing is: there is no wrong decision. You always decide as best as possible in the moment. Afterwards you are always wiser. Nothing at all bad.
