We also recently received offers for the entire house (ground floor + upper floor with partial sloping ceilings, a total of 156 m² living space). Sanding, possibly local filling (we will receive it from the main contractor with Q2 finish), painting fleece + paint on all walls and ceilings, about 16k gross. Roughly estimated, 20% of the costs are materials and 80% labor time. Now we are also looking for ways to save here and there.
A colleague suggested renting a sanding pole from the hardware store and doing it ourselves, which is doable as a layman, although exhausting. The problem is the painter can only start once I’m done, and I can’t just take 1-2 weeks longer, he also has his time window and other clients. I could imagine doing some of the painting work myself. I have painted often before and my wife and I have been satisfied with my own results so far. However, I have only painted textured wallpaper (Raufaser) until now. Does fleece have different requirements? I would do the utility room and office – it doesn’t have to be perfect there – and also a few of the bedrooms. Masking also takes a lot of time if you want it to be neat. I could take care of that too, even in areas where I would normally have it painted (e.g. large living/dining area).
Does anyone here have experience with airless systems for applying paint? They’re supposed to be much faster than rollers... But I wonder, if that’s the case, why does the professional still use the roller? There must be a catch...?
