Where do you want to know that from? Do you know our house? Just the gallery one week for all work... Sanding transitions from ceiling to walls by hand, etc. You can certainly have different standards there. Likewise ceiling: you can have just the joint or the whole thing spackled. We have two large west-facing windows in the open space, raking light forgives nothing.

Don't be so aggressive right away. It was a question, that's why there's a question mark at the end of the sentence... We definitely don't want to afford a 1 month delay in moving in because of painting. Better to have a good standard instead. I know the painter's work, since he was present at our hospital

no, that's not how it is, the raking light doesn't give a damn about anything :p. The correct thing is that you as the builder don't like it when different textures / surfaces under the influence of raking light don't look perfectly baby-bottom smooth. And you can feel that way, but you don't have to share that taste.
Anyone who has lived for a long time in a (very) old house (me) may curse many things, but baby-bottom smooth walls are not the most important thing in a new home ;)

I don't mean walls, only ceilings.
Personally, I find nothing worse than smooth, white walls. We won't have those.

We also recently received offers for the entire house (ground floor + upper floor with partial sloping ceilings, a total of 156 m² living space). Sanding, possibly local filling (we will receive it from the main contractor with Q2 finish), painting fleece + paint on all walls and ceilings, about 16k gross. Roughly estimated, 20% of the costs are materials and 80% labor time. Now we are also looking for ways to save here and there.
A colleague suggested renting a sanding pole from the hardware store and doing it ourselves, which is doable as a layman, although exhausting. The problem is the painter can only start once I’m done, and I can’t just take 1-2 weeks longer, he also has his time window and other clients. I could imagine doing some of the painting work myself. I have painted often before and my wife and I have been satisfied with my own results so far. However, I have only painted textured wallpaper (Raufaser) until now. Does fleece have different requirements? I would do the utility room and office – it doesn’t have to be perfect there – and also a few of the bedrooms. Masking also takes a lot of time if you want it to be neat. I could take care of that too, even in areas where I would normally have it painted (e.g. large living/dining area).
Does anyone here have experience with airless systems for applying paint? They’re supposed to be much faster than rollers... But I wonder, if that’s the case, why does the professional still use the roller? There must be a catch...?
