Nice thoughts. During parental leave, we actually lived like that. It worked, of course there were limitations. We complement each other very well, especially since I actually provide the biggest share. Currently, we manage with 100% and a 75% position. If it weren’t for the high daycare costs, we could reduce a bit more. This self-evidence "rich people will always stay rich" and complaining annoys me. Our grandparents would never speak so disparagingly. Gratitude is becoming less and less. I really find it sad that with such a high income one still has to worry. Our grandparents after the war had it the hardest. They managed everything with their own hands and gave up a lot. Houses huge but simply furnished. Whereas our parents with construction years from the 60s had the best opportunities. Very well-paid jobs, low prices, and support from their parents. Huge houses with good equipment were built despite vacations. Only one person had to work back then.
Generations today have more luxury, but much smaller houses and both have to work full-time. Leisure time gets lost.
That’s why I believe we need to move away from 40 or 35 hours. I think a 25-hour week would be appropriate with partial wage compensation. Companies don’t need as many workers anymore. Instead of cutting jobs, working hours should be reduced.
Since we have no inflation and money costs nothing, the state can massively subsidize.
