You talk so much, but say so little. How much did you pay for your battery including control and connection to the craftsmen? How many charge cycles do your batteries manage? What efficiency? I’m happy to roughly calculate the numbers using yours! If you name a company that installs a storage system in my house for 1000€ all-in per kWh, name it. Then I will immediately get a quote... (By the way, my neighbor purchased a battery system a few months ago and got many quotes.. so I know the prices here. But my neighbor is doing it more for fun; "money" doesn’t play a role for him... and even if you search on the internet, you don’t really find cheaper systems – because the "cheap" ones always lack a) inverters)

...we are also getting a battery storage system and it will probably not pay off financially or it will be a zero-sum game.

But it is sustainable!

What I don't understand is, with a car the price per kW is not questioned at all; and there are usually between 100 and 200 kW; they definitely don't pay off there and we don't even talk about sustainability!

And it doesn't make money, it destroys it...

Storage is definitely not financially worthwhile as long as you cannot offset high subsidies. One kWh from a storage system costs 50 cents or more, that is the reality. The idea of using the storage in winter when heating is done with electricity is nonsense. It takes quite large photovoltaic systems to generate a significant amount of electricity in winter, and that goes directly to self-consumption. Storage systems sit empty in winter and cost money in the form of maintenance power.

That's exactly what I've been saying, yet they make sense.

When it comes to cars, this pointlessness is not questioned, otherwise we wouldn't be driving the cars we do!

Where this hypocritical double standard comes from, no idea (not talking about you).

No car pays off or makes money!

The battery storage at least buffers part of the energy produced at the place of origin and does not burn fossil fuels.

A house construction should at least be well thought out in terms of insulation, heating, and ventilation technology.

But even here everyone builds as they want or can, or as the energy saving ordinance allows...

Of course a car pays off because it has a benefit. The benefit of the storage is the increase of self-sufficiency, someone also mentioned here the bridging of power outages. These are legitimate reasons. What is not true, however, is that storage pays off. That is simply wrong.

The vehicles I know don’t pay off; they just cost money!

How do you make a car look profitable?

Let's think about what a car used for work costs in net daily wages; most people would already be working a week per working month just to cover that!

I think there are better and cheaper solutions here!

This is written by someone who rides 2x21 km to work every day by bike, year-round and in any weather...
