Yes, the thing about priorities probably hits the mark. Although if we were earning 8k a month, then the 15k for a kitchen would also be no big deal, topsy-turvy world....

Of course, we can get bogged down in kitchen details. At first glance, I don’t see a big difference (apart from the induction hob 6 vs. 5 zones as well as the glass counter, which we excluded with the argument “toddler”). Raised countertop for tall people is also something we have . I can explain the larger oven to you. For some time now there have been larger ovens (formerly “normal size”) and more compact devices. Presumably, the smaller oven would have lower consumption (less volume to heat). We also deliberately chose the larger variant (a 7 kg turkey or a goose would never fit in the small one ). Oven at chest height also got multiple compliments from mother, mother-in-law, and friends .

By the way, we played two potential studios off against each other. In both, we started with the same specifications. After the first round (negotiating the price down to a normal level), we then went with the lower quoted price to the competitor and asked what they could do. This game was repeated several times over a period of 3-4 months. When the price was no longer negotiable, the studios improved the appliance equipment. But you have to be careful that the partner 1. does not express enthusiasm or the like and 2. does not commit to a particular detail. Because of the second point, we ultimately had to pay an €800 surcharge compared to the best price because my wife absolutely wanted THAT kitchen countertop. She did not allow smaller nuances. Thus, for that reason, the cheaper studio was ruled out.

Yes indeed. Above all, you are no wiser afterwards than before. Although for 15,000€ you can get a decent kitchen – but you can also easily blow that. What honestly surprised me about our renovation was rather the time it takes to plan your kitchen. You really have to take a lot of time if it’s to turn out properly, and if you take the time, you eventually get a feeling for what you want to spend (can) or what you really want in the kitchen.

You shouldn’t be scared off by the initial astronomical prices. In the first planning phase, a studio gave us a "status quo" of about 14,000€ – without appliances and countertops. That’s where we ultimately bought the kitchen, but not at that price.

Best regards
Dirk Grafe

I don’t read anywhere that the OP is building large or/and has the desire for a super expensive branded kitchen. Quite the opposite!

We have already discussed here some topics where it was about crazy kitchen prices.
Surely, most have a mid-range kitchen for 10-15 thousand €, without the unnecessary cost drivers: a power outlet in a kitchen island can cost 500 €, but also only 30 €!
Our kitchen would have also started with a 2 in a studio :P
What makes the OP’s house expensive is the location and the basement, not the desire for expensive nice-to-haves.
Please don’t unsettle the OP.

OK OK I can see already, the kitchen thing is going to be a long story
It really won’t be all that high-end though. The kitchen is about 14 sqm, so not very big and we don’t want an island, but rather a classic concept with a small kitchen table for breakfast. Only special request on my part: a big fridge with ice and water dispenser

But first we have to actually sign a purchase contract for the cabin and then there’s the small matter that the house even has to be built
So there’s still some time for induction hobs and steam ovens...

By the way, the financing actually works for 2000€/month – so we’re very happy with that and now quite relaxed about the burden.
Now it’s really just about whether everything is financed with classic annuities or if a building savings contract model is integrated. I’m still very undecided about that.

Of course, I don’t know your kitchen either, but saying I see no difference is exactly why it’s impossible. As I said, there are hoods alone that cost several thousand euros, the cheapest Miele dishwasher starts at over 1100.- on Idealo, a lower plinth with stainless steel strip costs as mentioned, and so on. There are also big differences with the drawers regarding load capacity, and one could go on forever. A higher oven is normal nowadays, isn’t it?
One question: Do you have a drawer directly under the cooktop or just a panel?
As far as I know, most can only have a panel installed because of heat development. With our Miele, you can also install a drawer...
Kitchen planning is a lot of detailed work, as we realized through many visits. What looks the same at first glance can ultimately be very different.
Whether you go into every store four times and try to play them against each other is a matter of taste. I didn’t want to be treated like that either. That’s why I get a few offers and with the one where the price-performance ratio fits, I try to get a little more, which usually succeeds.
Maybe I then say I’ll think about it and try to squeeze out something two weeks later, but that’s it.
