Out of some ignorance, of course, the occasional envy debate arises. Especially health insurance can become very, very expensive in old age when one is retired, and depending on the position, as a civil servant, one still receives less net pay than a comparable employee. Just because the new resident of Cologne has a very good income, that by no means applies to all civil servants. I would have about 20% less net pay as a civil servant in expensive Munich than I do now as an employee and additionally 5% less working time!

No thanks, two years of clerkship with the state is more than enough for me.

UPS - this should definitely not have been the case. The first post stemmed from the already "revealed" ignorance and the associated bewilderment as to why there is a change in tax declaration classes. #46 more likely the realization and the explanation of why I probably fell for the misinformation (confusion between tax and pension for civil servants).

If this was misunderstood here, I would like to officially apologize.

No no, the "envy debate" was a general comment and definitely not directed at you.
On the contrary, I thank you for your helpful comments here.
Before the first house construction, one is an absolute beginner and the suggestions here in the forum are very welcome food for thought.

I believe the envy debates are mostly led by people who don’t need to be in a house-building forum. And by that I don’t mean super-rich people who don’t care how much the house costs anyway.
