We built like this: me self-employed with well over 60 working hours a week, did almost all the electrical work in the house alone (complex KNX, DALI, 1WIRE), toddler (naughty!) on my neck, wife heavily pregnant and gave birth 10 weeks before moving in. All in all: extremely exhausting and I would NOT do it that way again. It probably cost me one or two years of my life. Nevertheless, we managed it.

In which industry are you self-employed, Steffen?

Well....
Fitting the nerd look, the only thing missing is a photo of your desk with two stacks of pizza boxes. One on each side of the monitor... *rofl*

I’ll say quite cheekily: Ifs and buts
It’s easier without a kid on your leg, but he or she is/are there anyway.
Well... the construction phase meant three months of living in a pension on 24m² because of massive botched work by the involved companies, with weekend laundry runs and pendulum trips to the in-laws, but we survived and in the end that also bonds you.
It’s nice to watch a child gradually discover the house for themselves (during the construction phase) and eventually associate their name with the "...going home!..." when turning into the street in front of the house.

Anyone who worries about such things in advance and panics should skip building and get a renovated used place!

BTW: On the topic of kids can wait
Ever thought about what questions the child will be asked when the dear mother or the dear father face a pubescent acquaintance of the offspring for the first time?
"...hey... is that your grandpa and is that your grandma?"
"No!"
"Oh?!? Those two are really old!"

The fact that you don’t get younger is shown to you most clearly by the kids with the parents’ nerves.
