I immediately got stuck on this post (01.07.24). I don’t know if you are doing yourself a favor with the new development area, as building deadlines are usually imposed there.

Yes, we no longer believe that it will get cheaper and want to take the risk despite the high costs. There have already been talks with house suppliers and financial advisors. We are cutting down on the house as much as possible. Rents are not exactly getting cheaper either, and despite the costs, we have come to the conclusion that we want to build now directly.

No, exactly the wrong approach. I moved about 30km away from work near some friends for a few years. Big mistake.
Up to 1.5 hours one way per day to work, and you meet friends on weekends; hardly anyone has time during the week anyway.
10, 15 hours of commuting per week to have a shorter trip on Friday evening.

And in the end, we usually drove to the city I moved away from to party.

Today it doesn’t matter to me, but if I had to go to the plant every day, I would move closer. You have to go to work 220 days a year; how often, realistically, do you visit friends and family?

Different property... Opinions on this? 500 sqm, narrow driveway and "somewhat" sloping terrain facing south. According to online measurement, a maximum height difference of 80 cm at the house area. Fiber optic is installed, a few small trees/bushes which I could mostly remove myself. The house to the south has a retaining wall going up. The northern house also has a wall facing south (northern property is higher). 10 min drive to work. We are not very enthusiastic because of the shape and slight slope but find it hard to imagine otherwise.

Are you bothered by the non-rectangular shape? I find it almost perfect to get a SW garden if you orient yourself to the "northeastern" slope with the house. The only thing uncertain to me is the slope gradient, also regarding the potential costs. Some slopes are not so significant and can be easily balanced naturally.

Mhh yes, the shape is actually really less decisive. More like how expensive the additional costs will be, e.g. longer pipes because coming from the right or earthworks. And whether you still have a good terrace and garden despite the house and double garage. To me it doesn't look too extreme, it's more like its own intermediate level. I have a few pictures here. I myself was not there because of my shift, but my wife was. It is from a municipality for about 200€/sqm. Not the cheapest but reasonable due to the small size.
