Ceiling outlets for ceiling lamps should ideally be communicated to the construction company this week. This would probably also include the ceiling outlets for the APs.

I looked into the additional price list for the electrical installation trade. Of course, some outlets, double sockets, and network sockets etc. are already included in the basic construction price, but by far not sufficient in quantity. Here are some additional prices:

    [*]Ceiling/wall outlet flush-mounted: 40 euros
[*]Outlet with switching/control switching: 80/87 euros, whatever that means
    [*]Double socket: 65 euros
[*]Supply line max 10 meters for garden lighting including switching: 190 euros
[*]CAT7 connection cable with CAT6 connectors on both ends: 120 euros
    [*]...

Just out of curiosity: how many Ethernet sockets do you have at home? We both work from home and have exactly eight network devices (wired) throughout the house. Including IP phones and two access points. If our child ever gets a notebook, that will be one more participant...

Currently, in our 3-room apartment, only the router in the study is connected to the DSL socket. From the router, only the PC and PlayStation are connected via LAN cable. Everything else (TV, printer, laptop) runs over Wi-Fi.

For me, it’s: NAS, access point, CCU2, 2x Raspberry Pi, TV, PC, network printer. I have a few more sockets. Since I have to do everything surface-mounted, I only lay what I need.

Attached is a picture of my switch. Patch panels are already 10 years old. I only started with 8 ports there. I need to organize patch cables shorter sometime. Everything is now mounted in a wooden frame. A proper network cabinet is definitely recommended, but I haven’t found anything suitable for me, so it turned into a DIY project.

I’ll briefly summarize, divided as much as possible by areas, what I need to pay attention to (heard here or also while googling). Please correct me if I forget or misunderstand anything.

TV:
Regardless of how quickly Deutsche Glasfaser really starts their rollout with us, have a satellite dish installed on the roof or on the house wall. From the satellite dish, coaxial (?) cabling to the living room, guest room, 2x children’s rooms, bedroom. Are these then separate outlets in the wall? Or is this – somehow – connected with the other outlets for the other connections (see below)?

As soon as we can get IPTV through DG, this will run via the LAN cabling and we basically have the choice by replugging which technology we use to watch TV.

Internet:
Since it is unclear how fast DG delivers their fiber line: initially have a normal cable/DSL connection from Telekom laid from the property boundary into the utility room. At the same time, as recommended by DG, bury a conduit as part of these measures as preparation from the property boundary to the utility room.

    [*]Utility room:
From there CAT7 installation cable: cable to living room, to office, possibly also to kitchen, to 2x children’s rooms, to bedroom, to the gallery upper floor, outside area?!
    Router from Telekom/DG
    Switch with 24 ports
Patch panel?? I don’t yet understand the difference/connection with the switch

    [*]Living room/kitchen:
2-3 double outlets near the TV, centrally in the room a ceiling outlet for an access point (watch out for PoE)
    [*]Office/guest room:
    2-3 double outlets
    [*]Gallery upper floor:
Ceiling outlet as centrally as possible for an access point
    [*]2x children’s rooms:
    1-2 double outlets each
    [*]Bedroom:
    1-2 double outlets

One double outlet always means that I can connect up to 2 devices via LAN cable there, right?
What kind of outlets should I use? It should not be high-end technology, but of course it should be able to fully utilize the booked fiber speed (400,000) and also be future-proof.
The outside area is still unclear to me. How/where should I have a cable laid there? On an outside wall, where an access point could then be screwed on?

CAT6 / 7 cable means 10 Gbit/s Usually it is recommended to control a double socket with two cables.
