I think you should actually draw it on graph paper once and dimension it, including REAL furniture dimensions as well, otherwise you might be setting yourself up for a problem. As a layperson, I would say that you don't necessarily have to put the beam on posts, but you could make a hole in the wall on both sides and rest the beam in it. I wouldn’t know why a beam should behave differently than a load-bearing wall, and in my opinion, it’s enough if the beam rests a few centimeters on both sides. I remember our first house, where there was a similar issue during the new build and the recess was only 5 cm or not possible beyond that. Maybe you could also close the current, slanted dining room door and build something nice as a spacious kitchen, transitioning into the dining room. I would actually like to see it on the plan then, with the dining table standing with its end directly against the TV back wall and the kitchen being expanded a bit, which obviously couldn’t hurt at the moment.
