Just asking by the way, you want to demolish 2 load-bearing walls, install beams and probably also redo the electrical wiring and pipes, just so a 3m sofa fits somewhere? You better buy a new sofa or arrange the furniture differently. It's not worth it.

That is, of course, the justified and sensible question before the question; for that reason, too, there was the desire to mark the existing or desired furnishings as well as further information about the personal situation and usage behavior. We have, for example, a living room area in the all-purpose room, but we mostly did not use it because we prefer sitting (staying) on our super comfortable dining bench. Upstairs there is a visually separated area that also serves as a TV area. In this respect, you might also be able to break away from a conventional layout and/or furnishing and include the upstairs in your considerations. I once had a nice apartment where the smaller living room was away from the dining room on the other side of the house, or upstairs. I also liked that. It is always a question of the overall living concept and perhaps also of one’s own flexibility and imagination. In fact, I would not, just because of the TV issue, “tear down half the house,” because there are certainly smarter and also simpler solutions. I had assumed that the kitchen and eating area, i.e. the entire living space, were to be redesigned/reused anyway.

First of all, thank you very much for the many responses in such a short time. I actually went to the site again yesterday to measure a few things that are hard to estimate based on the floor plan, so I was able to get a good impression of everything once more.

I will try to address the individual answers/questions.

A ground floor bedroom is a good idea in old age, we are in our early to mid-30s and have decided that if later the possibility arises to have a bedroom on the ground floor again, that would be great, but currently unnecessary.

As ypg already said, it is an existing building and I won’t mention the dimensions of our current kitchen, but we still cook fresh and delicious food daily. Thanks to the open design now possible, we also have more ideas here, the current issue is more about the living area.

About this, after yesterday I can say that the current consideration is going in this direction: if there is a breakthrough, then only one and from “living” into “sleeping,” and the laundry room stays as it is and becomes a small nice office. The laundry room is only called that on the floor plan but is actually a completely normal room; we still have enough storage space in the upper floor and basement. This idea automatically gives the living room a lot more light, since the balcony is on the south side and no further windows are necessary. We save ourselves the drywall partition and, as Katja wrote, a lot of effort for a couch. The wall does not have cables in the middle (checked and asked about yesterday, the house is still inhabited). Therefore, if a breakthrough is done in the end, it should not be particularly complicated.

I will try to implement a detailed drawing in the next few days also with the dimensions of the “current” furniture.

That is good, but for that reason you should already consider it as a whole and at least start planning, because otherwise you unconsciously restrict yourself unnecessarily for the next topic or maybe even increase costs.

That would really be good to avoid misunderstandings.

A photo that is not distorted is also quite helpful at first.

I still agree with not to tear down any walls. The current residents can live with it anyway.

I wrote here in the forum to gather ideas, which has worked very well for me so far, each one of you has expressed good ideas and criticism, so thanks again for that.
Comparing with the current residents, I think, misses the point a bit, because in the long run we want to have our dream house, and the living area is simply lacking a bit at the moment. Otherwise, I could have saved myself the whole topic here and live just as it is now with the wooden ceiling and so on.
