Can it make sense to include the storage room behind the carport in the thermal envelope and also use it for the heating installation?

Hello Mlt1402

I am a declared basement fan. A house without a basement is not a real house for me.
You wrote that you want to contribute your own work. Then build the house yourself. I have done that 3 times now. It costs time and nerves, but it is also a great experience. Architect until the shell is completed. After that, award the individual trades and do a lot yourself. My shell cost 180,000 euros 12 years ago (without roof) with brickwork. Without a basement and double garage, I would have saved almost 30,000 euros.

I agree.
A basement is much more than just an expensive storage room.
It’s another level. There is the washing machine, the dryer, the freezer, the beverage fridge.
Sure, all of that can be upstairs too. But you don’t want to hear or see it. Especially the washing machine and dryer are not exactly quiet.
A mancave with a workspace, dartboard, small whiskey collection, and a decent TV is in my opinion also worth its weight in gold. Especially in recent months, some people would have given an arm and a leg for an undisturbed workspace.
This week it’s going to be really hot, and again the basement plays all its trump cards.
I would always build with a basement, unless space on the level (plot size) really doesn’t matter.
Usually nowadays no basement also means even less garden on the already very limited plot.

I don't want to enjoy whisky in a dark cave. The freezer belongs near the kitchen, the washing machine and dryer where the laundry is generated. My appliances are not loud. When I see it at my parents' and in-laws' places, rooms without use except that the garbage container should be moved in. Every trip becomes difficult and whatever can goes upstairs or into the garage.

This is not about the fundamental discussion of whether or not to have a basement, but about adhering to the budget of 350,000/420,000. Or do you think of completely giving up the sleeping floor (light, sun, and warmth in the bedrooms is something you don't need) and retreating to the basement with a sleeping bag and a whisky glass?
