I take the liberty of bringing up this very old topic because I have already learned a lot here regarding my question, but I want to make sure once again that I have really understood it.
Situation: complete renovation of a single-family house from the 1950s; we are renewing all the electronics, have an 'all-rounder' who is also handling the overall electrical work well, but when it comes to "Internet," I don't think he is up-to-date. Therefore, I am now informing myself about it as a layperson.
My goal would be: a double socket RJ45 ('LAN socket'?
I want to connect a FritzBox to one of these sockets, which will then provide the house additionally with WLAN, and if needed, an additional WLAN access point upstairs.
The APL is installed outside on the facade, leading from there into a basement room. I understand it like this: Telekom is responsible for installing the "1st TAE" at a location of my choice, and I would then choose the basement room on the outside of which the APL is located. There I install a patch panel – and from this patch panel, a duplex LAN cable is laid to each RJ45 double socket.
Is that correct? Do I then have the option to connect the FritzBox to any LAN socket? It was partly recommended here to install a LAN socket next to the patch panel as well; I did not understand the reason for that.
Thank you very much!
