Take only your wardrobe. The family has to walk with dirty shoes through the hallway, the stroller has to go through the hallway and two doors, only to end up standing under the stairs in front of the bathroom, where the dirt is carried into the bathroom, where people walk barefoot. And children are not known for having few things and putting them in cabinets. (I'm already glad if the school bag and the shoes and the skateboard don't block the door so much that I can't get in...) The door also opens right in front of the wardrobe, try to squeeze four people in there. But let me guess, you already have that now and it's even smaller and you think it's great.

If the stroller is there, you can no longer access any cupboard under the stairs.

It feels like you currently live in a tent and happened to come into money, no offense intended. Hello? You are building 300 sqm for 1 million. Even if you’re not necessarily a passionate cook, calling a 4 sqm kitchen "previously sufficient" can’t be your excuse for the future.

We’re curious.

Why? Why do you want to constantly remodel your house?

The balance between entertainment and information value of this thread is currently tipping heavily towards the former. I’ll open the first bag:

Because we like the large open living-dining area on the ground floor and we already have it now. Light/a lot of space and a dark projector wall. We get light from all sides and don't feel trapped. If someone ever spends the night in the office, that will be at most 2x/year. In that case, they are welcome to walk through the living room to the bathroom and vice versa. We definitely don't find the 36m2 too much. And we want an additional room exclusively in old age, hence also the flexible kitchen connections. Of course, a bathroom connection to the room on the ground floor without moving the stairs would be great, but there were no suggestions here, just nagging :-)

Our project is definitely not too expensive. Of course, you can do it for 800k if you’re talented, do a lot yourself, and give up a lot, but that does not apply to us. You should better take a look at what a new 2-room apartment currently costs (not less than €6000/m2, and used not less than €4000/m2), at least not in South Baden, and I generally don’t compare with the East or poor federal states. Calculated per m2, this results in a reasonable owner-occupied home price that no one can deny, even including the expensive basement that is vilified here :-). Whether you like it or not. I wish for more suggestions like Katja’s

Calculated per square meter, it's still acceptable. In terms of quality, it's like paying the price of an E-Class for a Passat. But you already know that and are just convincing yourself that your design is good...

What now, kitchen too small, kitchen too big :)

I have purely discussed the project costs objectively. , what do you say to #57?
