In my opinion, the entrance is too narrow – the cloakroom would only fit under the stairs or in the hallway, where everyone would trip over the shoes. If the entrance is to remain there including the straight staircase, I would add a bay window / vestibule at the front. This expands the entrance area, eases the staircase situation, and ideally creates a cloakroom space for shoes. It also potentially highlights the beautiful front garden that the homeowner wishes for.
A vestibule is difficult to realize since it’s not a townhouse. But I understand what you’re getting at.
I read open kitchen and kitchen island but see 2 conservatively closed kitchens? What now?
An island only works where there is enough space for it. 2m width and 80cm depth are roughly the dimensions needed, in my opinion. A bump like in option 1 wouldn’t be my thing, well, and option 2 saves on the furnishing anyway because it would be difficult.
We are still somewhat split on this, on the one hand we find the look of an open living/kitchen area appealing, on the other hand, negative aspects like cooking smells or mess after a big cooking session keep popping up. One might want that less in the living room.
That’s why in our ideas we experimented with sliding doors or at least slightly recessed walls that at least partially separate the living area from the kitchen. So to speak, semi-open.
West-facing windows are a must, even if the neighbor regularly dances naked in the garden there. Light also finds its way around corners. It’s not just about the view but mainly about getting light in. A terraced house feeling is not desirable.
In the original draft of the first floor plan variant, everything was mirrored and arranged as many of you request here, with the dining and living areas facing west.
I have attached it again below.
But that really gives me a stomach ache imagining how to fit 2 cars in front of or next to the house. That’s why we also had it mirrored back. The driveway is also on the west side.
