No! Was I not clear enough?
Am I seeing it right, living/dining in the north? For that sleeping in the south…
But nothing fits together here at all!

and sleep facing south behind a huge fixed glazing, practically in a greenhouse without ventilation

Yes, the staircase is really too short, we have already noticed that. But we don't quite understand why it doesn't work in that spot. The upper floor is only meant for my wife and me. No one else goes upstairs here. It is certainly unusual to have the staircase in the kitchen, but we prefer that location over a hallway somehow. In some model homes, we have seen staircases in the living room; we didn't find that so nice, but it doesn't seem abnormal to have a staircase not in the hallway.

The storage room is really very narrow. Maybe we will delete the storage room and put the technical room in its place, and where the technical room is now, the guest bathroom. Then we could move the kitchen down a bit and would have more space for the staircase again. I think that was also my wife's first design.

The table and chairs really feel cramped there; maybe we'll just switch to a table for 4 people since it's just the two of us anyway, and if more guests come, two more can be added at the ends of the table.

But so far, there hasn't been anything on the upper floor you didn't like?

Regards Andreas

You’re probably the only ones, judging by the previous comments. Why do you particularly like that? In the current position, you have to run across the house to get to the upper floor. That’s rather complicated...

Those are things that can be easily adjusted.

142 sqm for 2 people and “it can’t be less.” At the same time the storage room is a narrow corridor and the stairs are like in a 17th-century French farmhouse (narrow and steep). You should really reconsider the planning, a lot can be done with 142 sqm. You are unfortunately using the space absolutely suboptimally. My suggestions: - Change the stair position and also plan it for practical use and not just hammer it somewhere into the floor plan. For example instead of the storage room and use that space as a utility room close to the kitchen - Rethink the 13 sqm walk-through room/gallery with open space above. - Bedroom in the north - Why have all windows fixed? Do you want a glass bunker on the upper floor? Fewer windows, but thoughtfully positioned. The tiny window in the dressing room makes the room look smaller and rather causes a claustrophobic feeling.

, yes, the plot is just like that. We are orienting the entire terrace to the north. The meadow is long enough to later create a second terrace in the sun. We understand that behind the house there won’t be much sun and in front the sun shines on the roof. There are blinds that are closed on hot days to keep the heat from entering the house too strongly.

After reading a lot here, we have come to the conclusion that it is actually a philosophical question. Many want the living rooms facing south and the terrace as well. But we say we are making the terrace in the north and thus also the living rooms. It’s not like no light comes in, just a bit less. I don’t know why that is always a no-go for many. If the living rooms were exposed to the sun all day, it would heat the place up incredibly through the window front. I lived for 10 years in an apartment with 4-meter-high windows facing south. In summer, the blinds were closed all day to endure it. I even had to turn on the lights at noon because otherwise it was too dark. That probably won’t happen to me with a north orientation...

I don’t quite understand the layout either: Where would the 180 cm knee wall be? Please show the plot plan. Why are living rooms, just like the common rooms, in the north, and bedrooms like the utility room and toilet in the south? A bathroom is also not ideally placed directly above the living room – it would be better to have toilets stacked and the water supply above the utility room (of course, you can deviate from these rules, but if you don’t have to, you should plan well and efficiently from the start). I would also avoid windows that cannot be opened on the upper floor, after all, they need to be cleaned sometimes. The same applies to furnishing: under the window, so you can’t reach it, is not ideal either. The staircase should be at least 370 cm long with a normal ceiling height (2.50 m). Extending it isn’t possible where it currently is. It is also in a rather bad position in the house, hidden and not centrally accessible. You practically have to walk around the table. The chimney shaft conflicts with the toilet’s downpipe. If you want to look from the entrance into the garden, why isn’t it drawn that way? The storage room is quite narrow… too narrow for, for example, a washing machine and dryer. The walk-in closet is almost useless with so little wardrobe space. What I really don’t understand: why are you designing a two-story house with similar space on the ground floor as on the upper floor? We are only two people as well and have about 90 m² on the ground floor and only 45 m² upstairs; that is quite doable with your plot size, even with a shed roof if that is desired. Why are you trying to squeeze everything into a small square?
