What do you want to achieve with decorative tiles? What kind of tiles are these? The same, just a different color or with a pattern? If I see that they are darker than the main tiles, then you achieve something with that.

But yes!!! If you have light tiles under the washbasin, you indirectly emphasize with the light color. If you keep it a bit darker, then it goes "under" the table. If you keep an inserted cube in one color, then you accentuate that area or 3D factor, in some cases intentionally, in other situations rather not. At the edge, you rather frame the whole thing, including the sides of the tub and not just slightly highlight the back area. A bathroom with its pre-wall structures should be considered in 3D, not like a normal bare room.

Actually, the idea with the top row partly came from the 3d structure. Sort of that on both sides you create a little illusion that the step back is at the same height. But maybe that’s just nonsense, or at least on the bathtub side we should have included the side walls, or or or. But anyway, basically it was kind of intentional that it looks a bit conclusive like that. But laypeople often have stupid ideas too...

We currently requested two combinations for the wall tiles, but I can’t find one of them online at all and the other one looks quite different in color on the online photos than in real life. And my phone camera is also crappy... but basically, these were the two options:
A)
- Decor tile: Agrob Buchtal, Tailor, 30x60, "Decor element Denim"
- Remaining wall tiles: Agrob Buchtal, Tailor, 30x60, stone matte cotton beige

(The photo is not of the 30x60 variant and ACTUALLY the decor tile is a washed-out denim blue and not gray... my phone really distorted that badly) So uh photo useless.

B)
- Decor tile: NIKA, 30x60, Y-NIK94A, Decor blue
- Remaining wall tiles: NIKA, 30x60, Y-NIK90A, white

(looked a bit less gray/greenish in real life)

Having the whole bathtub block and the whole sink block in blue is probably too much for us. As has already been criticized here, our bathroom is quite tiny.

The whole shower in dark decorative tiles makes the shower visually quite small and dark when you are inside. I know such a shower in medium gray decorative tiles and find it only nice from the outside. Not when showering itself.

Just wanted to give some feedback again, even though I feel a bit silly doing so because we hardly listened to you (oops). In the end, we left it as described on the previous page. Especially around the sink, it might be a bit strange, but having the whole area colorful was too much for us, and just the shelf was too little, and then we kind of ran out of time. Today I think maybe just the shelf would have been nicer, because I suddenly see something like that in every second bathroom, ah. I'm still super grateful for the feedback even though we didn't really implement it in the end.

We also went back and forth about the shower, but then left it "completely blue." Fundamentally, it was a bit from a similar dilemma: with "just a bit," we weren't sure what would be best. I've often seen something like a stripe in the middle behind the shower faucet. But I would find that a bit strange for us too, because ours is not in the back wall (I think) but in the side wall.

I think my conclusion for the bathroom is: the planning didn’t go very well. Fundamentally, it was a bit fragmented when decisions were made. Basically, the builder scheduled a meeting "Do you like the sanitary fittings?" (Yes, they’re fine) and another meeting "Which of the standard tiles do you want?" (None really...) After the latter, we were able to go to a tile exhibition, and the company will probably do the work for us, and they basically had good general suggestions, but at that point the mapping to OUR bathroom was a bit missing. (So, mostly general "you can do this," but comments like "but we only have a standard 120 tile backsplash, does that make sense there?" or "hm our bathroom is quite small, I think maybe the large floor tiles don’t work so well?" came from us, not them). So maybe they could have done that (probably yes), but at least they didn’t have our plan in mind there, and maybe we asked for too little support there or their understanding was that we will sort that out with the builder... But somehow it all belongs together, I can hardly choose tiles if I don't know if it makes sense in our bathroom at all? Maybe we should have demanded that more proactively (as my mother-in-law always says "only people who speak up can be helped"). That is also what I take away for "if we ever build again" -> ask earlier and more insistently and request support.

So there was quite a bit of going back and forth, but in the end it was kind of a "oh, whatever, we’ll just do it that way now." Well, then we just have a somewhat strange bathroom.

Still, thanks again for the input here!

We would like to see that then.

Jokes aside, I think you did a good job. You have to choose between time and nerves. I believe your bathroom will turn out well! Sounds understandable in any case. Besides, no one says the forum would plan a nicer bathroom than you.

I have tiles in the bathroom and hallway that would clearly "fail" in the forum and I think they are great. If that's any consolation...

Plus : My tiles wouldn’t fail in the forum, they actually have failed. However, we have been living with them for about 1.5 years now and they unfold the desired psychological effect in the color May green. :) The white push buttons are inappropriate, but we couldn’t find anything more suitable. (What a pretty pun: Dear mayglow, our tiles in the bathrooms are May green.)
