The hallway on the ground floor has quite a lot of space but still no real possibilities for a wardrobe due to the doors in the entrance area. The cupboard between the stairs and the living room is too far away and in a narrow spot. The approximately 4 meters next to the stairs are likely to feel very tunnel-like and are purely transit area without any use.

Are you attached to the straight staircase or would a spiral one also be an alternative option?

Oh, oops, yes, a continuous knee wall is missing in the drawing at the stairs. Accordingly, the door in the kitchen is an access to the storage room under the stairs.

True, the wardrobe would be too far back there. But you could take about a 1.50 m x 1.00 m corner out of the technical room so that a wardrobe can be created directly on the right at the entrance.

That the 4 m next to the stairs look tunnel-like is definitely a downside of the floor plan. That’s why we originally planned the kitchen as a walk-through room. We are not fixed on the straight stairs but could also imagine a switchback stair. However, it is difficult for us to fit all rooms into our floor plan then.

Unfortunately, our house is relatively narrow (9.25 m) and long (13 m). Since the position of the living/dining area in the west is fixed, with an entrance in the east, at least 8 m (13 m house length - 5 m width of the living/dining area) between the front door and the living room must be overcome. The stair shape does not change that. Only an entrance from the north would help. However, that would also mean that we don’t have the entrance on the street side and would have to walk halfway around the house each time. Also, it is relatively tight towards the north since we only have a 3 m setback from the boundary. Accordingly, an entrance from the north is actually not a real option for us. What do you think?

Hello Rapha,

to bypass this bottleneck, you need to open the all-room and pack the dining area towards the kitchen. I had already mentioned that. If you don’t want to always pass by the kitchen, you can move the dining area forward and put the kitchen in the back and equip it with a large west window starting from the countertop. I sketched my idea for you and found a photo to show how I could imagine the kitchen. You could also separate the living room with a sliding door if needed. I would then place the main terrace directly behind the kitchen window. It would have the charm that you don’t look at the table and chair legs because it is a knee wall window. Access to the terrace would then be via the living room and the south side of the kitchen. I would place an additional small terrace on the south side, where you also have morning sun from the east.

Hello everyone,

after our last floor plan completely failed, we sat down with a friend who is an interior designer and started over. The following floor plan has now emerged, and we would like to hear your opinion on it.

We now think it turned out much better. The only thing that still bothers us is that you can't see the garden (left side of the plan) from the sofa and that we can't fit a hanging chair in the living room. We had the idea to turn the sofa so that it divides the room and faces towards the top of the plan. However, everything becomes quite tight, and the corner between the dining room and the kitchen would have to be replaced by an angled wall, which would make the sliding door between the kitchen and dining room smaller. What do you think?

Much better, but both sofa positions are very awkward ... how about this .. The terrace door possibly a bit further up on the plan

I already welcome the willingness to abandon the single-flight staircase, but otherwise I still refrain from enthusiastic support.
