Unfilled Poroton is not only bad for outside noise insulation. Sounds inside the house also transmit perfectly to other floors. You have really nasty longitudinal sound, which is why it is also prohibited in multi-story construction. Surely there are people like Zaba who are resistant to that, but from a technical point of view, it is stupid to use such a brick. Unfortunately, I was talked into it by a developer. And I know so many by now who would never build with this brick again.

Filled brick and peace in the box.

I have mineral wool on the facade.

The painting company that was allowed to do it always said that the "plastic" variants are suspected of producing carcinogenic emissions. After 15 years, there is a risk that the stuff shrinks and the facade becomes unsightly. Whether that is true or just bar talk is always hard to decide.

As for the facts: The plastic stuff is flammable (yes, flame retardant means flammable). That is why, under certain conditions, fire barriers made of mineral wool have to be installed. I don’t want a flammable facade.

It is also a fact that the disposal of the plastic stuff is crazily expensive. Because of all the ingredients, it has to be burned as hazardous waste at a high cost. Do you want something like that on the facade if it actually emits gases?

But that’s also a bit of a fairy tale hour. If it should off-gas, then who cares? I would have more worries inside the house and now guess what is installed under the screed...

Sure, that’s partly a fairy tale. It’s just like the whole organic or Demeter topic in the supermarket. Is organic better? Definitely. But will you get sick right away from the cheap ground meat for ridiculously little money? Certainly not. Everyone has to decide for themselves where they supposedly do something good for their own peace of mind. I just treated myself to something for the facade

Hello,

that is an old myth and repeating it doesn't make it better... For several years now, no HBCD may be added anymore, so it is no longer hazardous waste and can be thermally recycled normally. Which, by the way, happens with most of the yellow bags that we painstakingly separated before. All of that is burned together with residual waste...

If you don’t like styrofoam on the walls (and I admit, if you knock on it, it just sounds crappy), I would recommend taking a look at mineral wool. It definitely doesn’t burn and also improves sound and heat insulation a bit.

Unfilled T7-10 Poroton bricks are strongly discouraged. The sound insulation is, felt-wise, not much better than that of a tent...

My recommendation: forget the KfW 40+ nonsense and build the house with a stable, preferably heavy stone. Either sand-lime brick or Poroton hollow brick. Then an ETICS [external thermal insulation composite system] in front and you’re good.

Best regards,

Andreas
