Well, I wouldn't go so far as to say he is at a loss for words … it's not total rubbish that he planned …

No, not a spelling or comma error, but "missing the point". As I said, I suspect experience, just a little outdated.

Well, I rather don't see experience here with a 20% slope. Here is my old suggestion. Of course, the garage is not possible like that.

No, certainly not specifically with that – I would even broaden it to: "generally not with residential basement floor".

I basically find the architect's work good, the basement is a "thermal luxury." Prioritizing the orientation towards the landscape and the view and accepting neighbors for that is completely fine, especially since another private place to settle down can be set up at any time. The office in the basement has a very good level of outsourcing for people who cannot close the office door well or are disturbed by the family business in the house. From my point of view it fits and will be even better with the 4 small changes. 20% slope and NW could be around the corner

Thank you very much for all your suggestions. The "smaller" things like remodeling the bathroom, widening the hallways upstairs and downstairs, and possibly redesigning the dressing/bedroom area will probably be implemented as well.

I think a fundamental redesign, essentially from scratch, is not something we will pursue in that form, as we really like the house as it is. But again, many thanks for the ideas, sketches, etc. We need to see how things look cost-wise, I will post the cost estimate once received and then the experts can take a look at it ;-) However, I wouldn't want to burden us with more than a 400k euro loan with a household income of 4,500 euros. Let's see how it looks with equity and own contributions.

If the costs then turn out to be too high, we will definitely revisit the idea of the two-story variant. The plot is really a stroke of luck for us and we want to achieve something there.
