Descaling system - is a bypass worthwhile for garden and kitchen?

Hello everyone,

we need to decide over the weekend how our descaling system should be installed. (It will probably be a Judo i-soft)
Until now, I always thought it made sense not to run the outdoor tap as well as the kitchen sink through the descaling system.
Outdoor tap, because of unnecessary salt consumption, and sink, because we plan to use the tap water as drinking water.

A few things now make me doubt this:

[*]The salt consumption for an outdoor tap should be negligible after a short research?
[*]The effect of the descaling is lost at one of the affected spots – the kitchen sink
[*]The whole thing costs about 600 euros extra.

I also considered looking for a sink with 2 faucet holes (1x descaled, 1x for drinking), but that doesn’t really seem sensible to me either, since I would always have to run the water first before drawing drinking water.

What is your opinion on this? Do you say, "I wish I had thought of a second line back then" or "I could have saved myself that and the scaled-up sink annoys me every day"?

We did it exactly as you suggested and do not regret it. I do not want to drink the descaled water just because of the taste. Look at Judo to make sure you get the higher version if you put it in the basement. This one has a specific sensor that prevents the system from flooding your basement in case of a power outage.

The bypass line in the kitchen then goes directly to the sink as usual, or have you planned a completely separate extraction point (=second tap)?

We don’t have a basement, and the Judo definitely has a built-in "Aquastop." We also had a Grünbeck quoted in parallel, and it was noted that we would need an additional component (Grünbeck protectliQ) for this functionality.

No, we don’t have a second valve… If you had two flushes that would be cool, then you could do one like this and one like that, but that was too much for us as well.

Otherwise, it can happen that the system is flushing just when the power goes out… then you can imagine where the water will go in your place.

For me, into the lifting system but that doesn’t work either —> basement full

Thanks for the hint. I have now found an article on "heizungsjournal.de": "Also new: The "i-soft plus" and the "i-soft safe" now have the emergency power supply "Safety Module". In the event of a power outage, it keeps all important system functions running for several hours. The leakage protection and connected leakage sensors also remain fully functional." We were offered "Judo i-soft safe". With that, we should actually be on the safe side, even though I only find the normal system or safe+ on the Judo website.

I estimated the additional salt consumption for the garden water at our place to be €15-20 per year. It’s a question of the amount of water drawn and the amount of salt used for softening. I did not consider costs for maintenance / resin. A branch before the system costs nothing extra, since we placed the system behind the branch to the lower outside tap. The two upper outside taps also run through the water softener. I would install an additional line to the kitchen for a separate drinking water tap nowadays, since the unsoftened water tastes better to us.
