Regarding the quoted email from a construction company: Of course, good companies with fair prices can currently choose their customers. As an entrepreneur, I would also steer clear of customers who know too little or too much.
We were also filtered out by 2 companies. With one, we wanted to remove clauses from the contract; they immediately said they did not want to build with someone who is legally so fit, as they were worried that we would come up with legal claims over minor defects. I can understand that. There really are nasty clients who try by all means to avoid fair payment.
The second company was a franchise general contractor, represented by a real estate agent who also sells existing properties. He told us he was not the right one for us because he preferably only sells turnkey from the catalog, but we apparently know our stuff well and have very concrete ideas - the forum is to blame.
