Can a layperson dare to handle the baseboards themselves?

Hello everyone!

, sorry for hijacking your thread here ... but it’s related in terms of topic, if you don’t mind!?

Regarding the choice of flooring in the future single-family house, parquet in the living areas is basically decided for me.

As for the hallway, I am still torn and cannot decide between parquet and tiles. Essentially, I would also lay parquet there, as I’m actually less worried about sensitivity and maintenance. Rather, the thought of the many doors and especially the staircase (!) worries me.
The latter especially because the transitions and the expansion gaps (parquet) can’t be easily and properly covered. Baseboards don’t work there, and I know few clean and nice alternatives.

So my question to the group is: what do you recommend to properly cover the many small/short transitions like, for example, at the wooden staircase?

what does that mean?? do you want to install the parquet floor as a floating floor?

The doors themselves don't really worry me, it's just an extra effort to cut all the moldings to fit properly with so many doors and to shorten the door frames. Whether the staircase can ultimately be "neatly clad" is still a question for me... but that will certainly also depend on the type of staircase, which still needs to be selected.

Parquet glued or floating is still a question mark! :) I know you are a fan of floating installation. I have actually only done that so far and am still struggling with myself whether I should opt for gluing in my own home after all. I will probably have to toss a coin in the end ;)

I think that with underfloor heating, parquet is not really ideal anyway, so at least it should be glued down to create a bond with the heated screed concrete.

I also think that doors are no different "problem" than with any other floor. I’m only using straight moldings anyway, so without any frills. Either I have them cut from a sheet of MDF at the sawmill and paint them, or I might also take 10-12 cm smooth-edged boards and have them cut in the middle, then it’s easy to manage with the miter saw.
I have underfloor heating and parquet here, laid floating over a large area. We had no influence on that, but I can’t name any problem now, it works well. Only in a very few places does it sometimes crackle when walking over it, but that is very minimal and could probably have been almost entirely avoided with a bit more care during installation.
If you did the calculations, you’d probably get slightly better results with a glued floor, although I don’t know if that would really make a big difference. I’m still not a fan of gluing because glued parquet feels rock-solid to me. It’s not that my parquet here would wobble or spring, no, but there is noticeably better walking comfort compared to the glued solid parquet of my son. That is at least my perception or feeling about it.

No, not necessarily a fan. I just have it like this at the moment and find it good. Also, it would be easier to install yourself or replace if necessary. In the new build, it will be screwed solid wood anyway, and I am a fan of that, that’s true :D
If installed floating, it will probably be "more difficult" with moldings or you have to come up with something, because the floating part might slightly spring. If glued, both sides would be fixed and you could, for example, use a stainless steel strip like this:

I think the coin is a good idea! I’d really make it depend on what I prefer to walk on. Maybe you can take a look at a comparison or test it.
