Neighbors paid around 800 euros for a satellite system a few years ago, if I remember correctly. But they have a small dish.

What writes is correct. A dish that can be easily and comfortably reached for work is worth its weight in gold. Especially when you consider that then no one can fall 10 meters deep. Of course, you can also break your neck from a one-meter fall.

I will also rely on satellite for TV in the new building. Internet remains 250 Mbit DSL over copper from Telekom. Hardly anyone watches TV anymore anyway, and if they do, only 10 minutes of news. There is (still) no fiber optic here, and cable is not a desirable technology for internet connection for me.

We have had excellent experiences with the Selfsat "dishes" at three properties so far. They work flawlessly even with 5 cm of snow on them. They are also significantly more attractive than conventional dishes.

And for that, you want to install a complete satellite system? I would really think about that again.

Yes, exactly for that. Sometimes there are things that only exist on linear old-school TV or that are exactly important when there is an internet outage.

A Magenta subscription would probably be cheaper than the device. It is now available independently of a Telekom plan. The app should be available on most modern devices. Edit: I just see without Telekom DSL you need the Magenta TV Stick. It would still probably be cheaper for 10 minutes a day.

No, you don't need it if the app runs on the TV, which is now the case at least on Android/Google TV, Tizen, and webOS (and others?). Regardless, that would also be my recommendation, and that's exactly how we set it up.
