You should google ftth routers, I found a list about a year ago of which ones work. I think there were about 5 or so. Or pay the 5€ rent for the one from Telekom, that's supposed to be pretty good too
At Telekom, there is a fiber optic modem for FTTH. A router is connected to it. The advantage is that the router does not need a modem. What kind do you have at home now? Maybe it works without any problems.
If you need to buy one, then be clear beforehand about what it has to be able to do. TAE connections? S0 connection? DECT function? Great Wi-Fi or doesn't matter because everything runs through access points? VPN? Other required functions?
I actually don't see why I should pay Telekom rent monthly. That's why I wanted to take care of my own router in advance. The router doesn't have to do anything. It only needs to serve as a DHCP server. The WLAN will be distributed via 2 access points.
What I found out so far is that my router probably comes from [deutschen Glasfaser]. As Rick already wrote. So it must be able to handle fiber optics, right?
Just for my understanding. Are you talking about the modem or the router? The router should actually be completely irrelevant which one, they all work. It should be a good gigabit router. The crucial point is more the modem, which is either part of a router or connected in front of the router. Have Telekom provide you with the modem (if it’s also a router, disable the router function) and connect any router that meets your requirements behind it. Renting sounds lame at first. But honestly, a few euros for the security that the connection (without routing) works and that you get a free replacement in case of a defect would be worth it to me.
Last year, as part of our new building, Telekom installed FTTH for us, the access data is stored in the router (the modem is from Telekom) We opted out of the Telekom-owned router and chose a product from Ubiquiti (USG-Pro-4). However, this is not a combined device, i.e. the device does not provide WLAN, for example.
