I wouldn't know what would look better about a sun sail? You still need two big poles, which stand like a radio mast in the garden when not in use. There are also nice awnings, they don't have to be striped or have a fringe at the front like in an ice cream parlor.

Best regards
Sabine

Hello everyone,

yes, thank you very much for the ideas, yes, a bit retro always works but we already had to replace a window on the construction side and it has a red accent (I have to look for a photo) so orange would almost be too much for me and it probably won’t be stripes either.
Unfortunately, it has to be electric, 8m awning crank?!
A sun sail is nice but impractical, I need a mounting point somewhere in the lawn and the garden is already quite small anyway
and constantly hooking and unhooking the thing (sounds unappealing)

The option with light grey for the anthracite windows sounded interesting, would you please share a photo with me?

Thanks and best regards, Claudia

8 meters? Ours was about 6 meters wide and 4 meters deep. It was attached to the roof rafters, which were relatively high, but it was really no fun in the wind. It's a large sailcloth and I think people know how ships used to be moved on the sea. I would 1. never hang such a cloth on roof rafters again and 2. definitely not 8 meters.

I oriented myself a bit on the original house of the settlement.
They all had different colored front doors; ours was originally a chimney red.

Now it will be bright red, matching the bench and the garbage bins/mailbox,
and the kitchen window as well as the window in the garden (where we removed the balcony) are framed in red.

I would like to find something suitable for that, have already thought about a kind of pergola that would then grow over.....but since our garden is not particularly large, that might take up too much space?!

our windows are just under 8m wide and an awning with 6m in front of them makes no sense either visually or functionally?!

A pergola that is allowed to become overgrown takes away light during the dark season. A pergola where you stretch cloths between the beams in summer (or electrically extend and retract them) is an alternative that absorbs less light in winter and allows partial shading.

A sailcloth can look great but is not very practical if you want to take it in and out often.

An alternative to the 8m can also be a combination of a 4m awning and a 4m pergola or 4m outdoor blinds and 4m awning – unverified suggestion, as I have not been on site yet.

Regarding the color: a linen-like natural beige tone is neutral and fresh at the same time. Light gray would create a more modern contrast to the (beautiful) red.
