There are still old (triple-bricked) brick walls standing from both former residential buildings. The walls we had to renew had to be just as thick, which is why our energy consultant prescribed equally thick sand-lime bricks as were there before. Thus, the walls were reconstructed in the same place where they had stood before (rules in the outdoor area). In the end, one will only see some of the old masonry in the garage (exposed brickwork).

I remember a radio segment by an architect - pleasant to my ears - who said:

The whole insulation circus nowadays (that was at least 20 years ago) is nonsense. For thousands of years, thick walls have been the means to properly climate-control a house.

That is probably not always true, but I like the statement.

Your stories sound to me like: Existing requirements have been successfully implemented into a coherent concept.

Such preconditions can always act like a brake block... but they don't have to. Life is full of requirements that must be used ;)

That is still true, provided one no longer uses the materials from earlier times. Those were thick only for structural reasons – their insulating effect was terrible.

Impressive project and great respect for what you have accomplished! I have looked through the entire blog and am totally impressed. Like many others, I am still waiting for the plans and, of course, eventually more pictures from the inside.

Our floor plan of the ground floor. In the attic, there is a small gallery in the left wing and a small hallway with a double-sided open bridge, two children's rooms, and a guest room in the right. I can only visualize this in 3D with great difficulty. The central section is single-story.

Personally, a 2D drawing is sufficient for me. I even prefer it ;)
